- IBC, the conference company, has established a bursary scheme to help younger academics aged 23-35 years to attend selected IBC conferences. One award is available for each specified conference, covering the conference fee, travel expenses (arranged by IBC) and accommodation during the conference. - Professor Bill Bonfield, until the end of 1999 Head of the IRC in Biomaterials at Queen Mary & Westfield College, London UK, has taken up a new chair of Medical Materials at the University of Cambridge. His remit includes building the department's expertise in tissue-implant interactions, new skeletal implants, biocomposites, drug delivery systems and tissue engineering.
- The PHIDIAS network has issued its Newsletter No 3, focusing on models for medical interventions, surgical planning and rapid prototyping. This issue includes articles on reconstruction of skull defects, improving geometric accuracy in medical modelling and drilling templates for dental implantation and Zygomaticus procedures.
