Summary
The aims of this project include preparation on laboratory scale of new

polymeric matrices for the formulation of

biocompatible-bioerodible-biodegradable microcapsules and

nanocapsules (microcaps) as designed for the targeted release of

proteic drugs. The ultimate target is IFN? administration to liver

hepatocytes in patients affected by hepatitis-C.
Achievements
The following results have been achieved:

1. lab-scale and scale-up procedures have been devised for the

preparation of bioerodible/biodegradable new co-polymeric materials.

2. formulation of stabilised microcapsules and nanocapsules

(microcaps) has been achieved, using some of the hybrid materials of

choice.

3. investigation has been carried out of the interactions of the prepared

microcaps with hepatocytes from rats.

4. a biodistribution study of microcaps in vivo (rabbit) showed a

selective accumulation in liver hepatocytes.
5. 3D molecular dynamics modeling of nanocapsules stabilization by modified b-cyclodextrins and docking of labelled nanocapsules to asialoglycoprotein receptors.
