Summary
This project aims to assess the feasibility and quality of smooth and

hard ceramic coatings (ZrO2, AI2O3) produced by state-of-the-art

coating technologies on dental implants and knee prostheses

(engineering and biological tests), and then to select the most

promising coatings and submit them to in vivo (animal) testing.
Achievements
Assessment of coating techniques runs on schedule. PVD and

plasm-spary coatings with suitable properties have been obtained. In

vivo tests will start in August 1998.
