The mission of MEDICS is to support industries, biomedical users and other involved institutions to transform the opportunities of microtechnologies, microdevices and related technologies into successful biomedical products and advanced biomedical applications. MEDICS started within the European programme EUROPRACTICE in October 1997.

MEDICS consists of a small team of consultants that have experience and expertise in biomedical device engineering and microtechnologies, technical consultancy for high tech-oriented enterprises and management of interdisciplinary R&D-projects in the medical device sector. As the host organisation of MEDICS, the Fraunhofer institute for Biomedical Engineering (FhG IBMT) in Sulzbach, Germany, provides expert technical support to MEDICS, including packaging and interconnection of microprobes, neuroimplants, sensorics in MIT, ultrasound, NMR-probes, bio-testing (in vitro & in vivo) and telemedicine. Also the Centro Nacional de Microelectronica (CNM) as the associate Spanish host organisation, provides additional know-how in microsensorics, ASICS and telemetry.

MEDICS has devised and hosts the MEDICS Biomedical Database, including information on companies, institutions, contact persons, products and services related to biomedical microdevices and advanced biomedical developments.
