Project summary This project is aimed at developing living tissue-engineered bone substitute materials that can replace load-bearing and non load-bearing bone
Project achievements update April 99
  • First biocompatible starch-based materials have been identified and studies have been initiated to produce porous scaffolds using different methods and to determine mechanical properties.
  • First batches of PEO/PBT copolymer have been synthesised on a small scale and studies have been initiated for pre-calcification and composite preparation with calcium phosphates.
  • Tissue culture experiments to optimise culture conditions for rat and goat bone marrow cells have been performed and studies have been initiated with rabbit and human bone marrow cells.
  • Cell seeding experiments have started with static and dynamic culture conditions to optimise cell seeding efficiencies.
